Which Backup and Recovery Solution is Right for You?

By Clearview Focus on March 6, 2013

With the amount of information, data, and resources that we store digitally in this day and age, we’ve made ourselves very vulnerable. One electrical surge or one downed power line could send a business crashing to the ground in just a matter of seconds. That’s why it’s absolutely necessary to have a data backup and recovery solution in place in case of emergency.

You may not be able to predict the future, but you shouldn’t have to guess what happens to your information. If you haven’t done so already, implement a backup and recovery solution for your company immediately. Options include:

  • Recovery as a Service – Also known as RaaS, this backs up and stores your networks, information, and resources on a cloud server. In the event your data is lost, a full restore of your system is just a click away. RaaS also functions in the background, so you don’t have to remember to manually create a backup on a regular basis; the service does all the work for you.
  • Tape-Based Backup – As tapes are less susceptible to power surges and other common problems, they are often used as an IT backup resource. Copy your data and information regularly to physical tapes and store them in a secure tape library. As an added benefit, tapes are easily reparable and are more difficult to tamper with than their digital counterparts.
  • Disk-Based Backup – Information and data is duplicated, compressed, and stored on a disk drive or other digital storage device. This creates a redundant source that can be used in the event data is lost or erased. These disk backups are also portable, so you can have an on-site backup, as well as a remote backup elsewhere.
